You must register a credit card before you can purchase any books from our eBook Store, even free ones. There are two reasons for this. First, if the publisher has requested a watermark, this requires your name. Second, some publishers make their ebooks available only to specific regions, rather than world-wide, depending on the rights they have negotiated. Therefore, Feedbooks needs to have a credit card on file with a billing address to verify your region before finalising any purchases, even for free books, because we use that to determine which books are available to your region and only display those titles.
When you visit without signing in to your account or without having a credit card registered, we use your IP address to determine your region, however since you might travel to a different region or even have more than one residence we prefer to let you tell us your region.
Please note that you will not be charged for the free book, however, when you register a credit card with Feedbooks, our payment management system sends a $1.10 charge to verify that the card is valid. This is the smallest amount it's possible to send. The charges are then cancelled / refunded. This is standard practice and most banks handle the procedure transparently, and the charges do not even appear on your account, however some banks depending on their internal procedures do pass along these charges to the customer. For questions about this procedure, please contact your bank directly.
If your bank puts a block on these payments, you'll get an error message, and you'll be unable to purchase books from Feedbooks; we were unable to confirm that your credit card was valid. In order to purchase from us, you will need to contact your bank and request that they allow payments to Feedbooks.
For more information about adding a credit card to your account, please take a look at this page: https://feedbooks.zendesk.com/entries/20395668-adding-a-credit-card-to-your-account
This does not apply to our free Public Domain and Original self-published books, only books from our eBook Store.
